Nestled just 6km from Castlebar in the heart of County Mayo, Crimlin National School is a vibrant and welcoming rural school where curiosity, creativity, and community spirit thrive. With a strong focus on hands-on learning and the development of the whole child, Crimlin NS provides a nurturing environment where every pupil is encouraged to explore, discover, and grow. The school is staffed by two classroom teachers, a special education teacher, an english as an additional language teacher, a special needs assistant and a secretary.

Science and discovery play a central role in daily school life. From exciting classroom experiments to exploring the night sky through astronomy projects (facilitated by Newport Astronomy Club), pupils are encouraged to ask questions and think like young scientists.

Outdoor learning is another cornerstone of the Crimlin experience — geography lessons often take place beyond the classroom walls, allowing children to engage directly with the rich natural environment surrounding the school. The school has a basket all court, football pitch, sensory garden and wild garden space.

Music also holds a special place at Crimlin NS. The sound of drumming and song frequently fills the halls, fostering teamwork, rhythm, and joy in learning. These creative experiences help pupils express themselves while developing confidence and collaboration skills.

The school community is also dedicated to wellbeing and inclusion. Crimlin NS is currently working towards achieving the Amber Flag, an initiative that promotes positive mental health awareness and wellbeing among pupils and staff.
